These past weeks have brought their share of bad news for many people around me and it’s painful to know what they are going through. I want to step back and say: it’s all in your mind, drop it!
But I know very well that we don’t find peace and confidence amidst the tempest storm. The best we can do in these moments is to hold on for good and cultivate a cheerful attitude towards life until the tempest passes.
The tempest goes like this:
Life is unfair, I am alone, I feel abandoned, I am so weak, I can’t handle it anymore, nobody understands me, if I die now who will care?, What I am doing here?
And that’s just a taste of what each wave smashes into your head and leaves you washed out. Brrrr!
All of the people I know who are going through this tempest have one common life boat: an inner strength of life that shouts for survival and fights. It comes as:
anger, violence, workaholism and other denials, excesses, cries… All precious warnings as long as they mean “I am holding on”! But please, all of that drains energy and if not taken care of, comes fatigue and depression.
We want happiness not a sheer bandage.
So the best way to tackle the tempest while holding on is to actually keep the focus on the island and the ray of light at the horizon. KEEP THE FOCUS ON HAPPINESS! and make it so real that even if you are under the biggest of wave attacks, you never leave this focus.
We will never repeat this enough to ourselves: HAPPINESS IS WITHIN, IT’S ALL IN THE MIND.
So start today to quit the dark corner, let your mind focus on the sunshine behind the tempest!
This is the biggest game changer of our life: to hold on and keep the focus on the sunshine beyond all the tempest but also once the tempest has calmed down, behind the clouds!
It’s hard and ongoing work to rewire the mind but if you are holding on to the tempest, then you might as well quit the dark corner and start looking for the sun! It’s there.
